If you’ve ever watched the MTV Video Music Awards, you know
by now to be prepared for literally
anything. With Miley Cyrus as this year’s host, I was already prepared for an
insane amount of jaw dropping moments. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any
stranger, rapper Kanye West declares his 2020 presidential bid. First Donald
Trump and now Kanye? Honestly, I’ve never been more confused.
During Kanye’s completely unclear and confusing 15-minute speech
he manages to ramble on about juice, diss MTV and award shows, apologize for
previous actions and even admits to smoking a “little something” before the
show backstage. Kanye then decides to end his speech by saying “Yes, as you
probably could have guessed at this moment I have decided in 2020 to run for
President.” No, I’m sorry Kanye, but that was the last thing I expected
you to say.
That’s right, America… Kanye West for President, “bro”. What
an exciting time to be alive! Check out the full video.
So, here is the real question: Is
Kanye serious? Or is this just a stunt to gain publicity and media attention? The
answer is still uncertain but that didn’t stop social media sites from exploding.
Kanye West’s shocking announcement was trending on Twitter almost instantly, over
2 million tweets in just hours. Check
the hashtag #VMAs or #KanyeForPresident2020 for more (insanely ridiculous) tweets.
As expected, the Kardashian clan
had something to say about Kanye’s presidential bid. Both Kylie and Khloe Kardashian
posted the following photos on their Instagram accounts:
Even if this is one big hoax to make Kanye relevant again,
it’s definitely working. Kanye’s PR team has their hands full. Thanks to the
power of social media, people went into a frenzy after Kanye’s speech. Forcing
Kanye right back into the limelight, exactly where he wanted to be.
Your decision, America, #KanyeWestforPresident2020?
